Where I Be

Good Day Everyone!

We are nearing the end of the month, and I would like to tell everyone how much I enjoy being able to bring you news, and tid-bits and hopefully a little inspiration from here in the Holy Land.

These blogs are a great way to connect with the events of today – in all their complexity, and with the events of the Bible – in all their reality!

I do trust you all enjoy them as much as I enjoy the opportunity to share with you.

There's a lot going on this next month of November through the ministry of LeSEA Broadcasting. But I need to share that I won't be able to be with you during the coming month – and I'll be missing you!

I know Chuck Freeby and the rest of the set will keep you up to date on the situation here in Israel.

And for a good part of the month you will be able to tune into the Harvest Show and remain connected to the Holy Land as Pete Sumrall will be here hosting the wonderful pilgrim experience for those on the LeSEA Tour of a lifetime.

So wipe away those tears – there's plenty happening – and make The Harvest Show a part of your weekday routine.

We'll be in touch in December – and until then, may God's Grace and Peace be with you, and the Middle East.

Graduation

Hi friends,

Today there is a graduation in our family!

I am so proud of my daughter and her accomplishments. She has really 'buckled down' and demonstrated her ability to learn and perform in an academic way.

What has impressed me has been that she never resisted the extra effort. She did what was needed to do. And then – she learned her lesson that her human will is a very powerful tool for her.

She understands that she is a minority over here – but has a good gift at simply getting along and dwelling on the common good as opposed to differences.

She has a global outlook (something quite rare here in Jerusalem), and is ecologically minded.

All this wraps up in the word: CARE

She cares for her friends, she cares for her family, she cares for the environment in which she lives, and she cares about herself.

And just so that it is clear – as a parent, I am thankful most of all for her unswerving love of God. It isn't easy growing up as a Christian kid here – but she's doing it – and I dare say;

To the Glory of God.

The Test

Well, it's that time of year where the school year is winding down and preparation is underway to get good grades on the final exams. My kids got a whole battery of tests to evaluate what they've learned and procrastination, distractions, and the creative ability to make alibis are at their zenith!

How does it all play out over here in Jerusalem? Probably not too different from anywhere else in the world.

In school kids learn a lot right? ...and then they learn 'other things'. Sometimes kids learn to inflate themselves and their accomplishments. They learn how to hide their hurts – and it's no different over here.

In our house we are trying to teach our children how to be genuine, authentic people. We pray that they will grow to be individuals who will admit their struggles and actively seek God and His love and forgiveness. That definitely goes against the grain!

Even in this setting of traditional families and conservative practice there are huge amounts of brokenness in both kids and adults. People often won't seek help - it is perceived as a sign of weakness.

We want our children to learn that we can't do it all on our own. We want them to learn that God will help them if they call upon Him. And lastly, that God will put into them His desires for their hearts if they surrender their wills to His.

The first step is always the hardest - acknowledging need. And really - before we ask the question to our kids – we've got to ask ourselves;

"What are we doing with our lives?"

Over here there's a really bad habit of putting things off... don't do it! I'm guilty of that... I have to constantly evaluate what changes can be made today – not just for my future – but also for my kids!

And what does the future hold?

A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth. -- John 4:23,24

Focus and make a difference in your life and in your family. Learn to help them pass God's test!

All the best,

Brian

Holiday Time

Hi Everyone!

It is good to be back home with the family – and that's what this season over here is all about – family!

It is Passover here in Jerusalem and the Old City is packed with people everywhere – so much so it is a bit hard to move around and get anywhere!

All week long folks come from all over the country and arrive and visit the various sites in and around Jerusalem. There is a heavy police presence for crowd control that makes it a bit difficult for people who live in the Old City to actually get home – but all this is still centered around this special holiday.

Passover marks the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt, from slavery to freedom. Jewish families tell the story as if it had happened to them personally and not as a mere historical event. This helps to emphasize the importance of the event and ties the people together throughout their generations.

Like we find throughout the Scriptures, God is providing a reason for us to recount His goodness to us – His faithfulness. And as a Christian family we can celebrate at this time that we have been liberated from our slavery to sin and will one day be brought to that promised land – the new heaven and earth.

All that is made possible by Jesus, that we see so vividly in the story of Moses and the exodus. This story will be recounted in Orthodox Churches both here and throughout the world as the Eastern Church celebrates Easter.

It just all adds to the excitement, and importance, of Jerusalem – my home.

Christ is Risen!
